Today we started out by doing our last typing tutor for about a hour and a half. We had to list 3 futures channel videos that we watched and a paragraph of what we learned while watching the video. After we shared it with the group we had to beam to everyone our software summarys that we wrote about what our software is about, how they can use they program. When we were finished with that we had to jump into our recording our software review in Audacity. Editing it and saving it to our podcasting folder in summer0 7 images on Data01. Later after that i had to found my resume so I would be able to update it and print it off. We printed off our labeled plants and saved them so, we would be able to name them pdf, under scribus. After that we printed off our binder covers and also, saving the image to pdf, creator again. The last thing we did to finish off the day was doing our projects and making them as a summary. I also, finished my project on scirbus and I showed everyonw what I have been doing since last week with my project.

Today we started off by making our sandwichs for lunch, for after we are done taking a tour at Emiquon. It toke about a hour and a half to get to Havana. Most of us slept the whole way there. When we got there we went to the Emiquon office, it had a long rode that toke about 5-7minutes. When we got to the office we went inside to talk to the director named Jason B. After that we headed to the Illinois River, where we are going to canon there and see the site. We were on the canon for about a hour or two. While we were on the canons in the river, there was alot of igens in the water, bugs; dragonflys, and cat tails and some fish. We went like 2 miles down the river and 2 miles back, so we paddled for about 4 miles. The paddling was a hard thing to do, but ALOT of FUN! We talked about the -scenarie- which was amazing, with the trees, plants and the bugs. After we were done paddling, it was time to leave. We came back to the shore and of course we had lifejackets; we put them in a box with our paddles and the adults put away the canons in a rack of where they dry and store at. After that, we headed to Dicksons Mounds Museum to eat lunch and also to see the museum. We ate in a extra room that they had and after we ate our sandwichs and some chips, we went to a small part of the museum about carved ducks while waiting for Dr. Wiant to take off the sign that says do not enter; I thnk hat the dock wasn't done yet to let people see it. We went to a dock that looks new, but it showed us all the land that was owned by Emiquon; it was 3 rows of trees down from what we were looking at, and that was about 7,000 arces of land that they had. When he told us about a farm that everytime it rained it kept on flooding that the owners had to pump the water out, to keep it from not flooding. So, I think that the farmers were getting tired of pumping the water that they just let the water stay, and the water there, let bugs and animals start coming because now there was food and home for them, and now it was a great place. When he was done we went to a theater, that I though at first was live but when we stayed for a little longer, I found out that it wasn't. But the whole thing was pitch black and the only thing that wasn't black was the movie screens. But there was a rail that went all around the theater;it was a room that had like 4 screens in like every corner, with string hanging down from it next to the screen to make it image more real. When we were done with that we packed everything up and we went on the bus and we headed to the tech center.

Today I started out by going outside with Pietra Mueller. We went outside and we started out by looking at the Prairie Plants, and she was tell us what the names were and what they do when it gets dark. After we looked at some of the plants like bush clovers, compass plants, cup plant, purple prairie clover, stiff goldenrod, and little bluestem. Then we toke out a measuring tape and we measured from the beginning to the end of the prairie field and we toke a square bar and we put it on the ground, where we looked at what was in the square that we put on the ground and then wee did like a percent; a example would be like their is about 50% in this square would be grass and 25% would be bluestem and the other 25% would be like purple prairie clovers. Then after we were done with that, and we told her thank you, I went inside to do my project. I worked on that for 1 hour that I started to work on typing tutor for about 30 minutes. After that Dr. Cashatt came and we all sat around the table and he started to explain what they does when he gets a insect. We started out by taking a box of bugs and taking them and putting a needle threw them. Then wee got a moth and he showed us how to put a needle threw them and then we did that. After that we printed off labells for the 12 bugs that we put needles in. Then it was time to leave.

In this 2 weeks that I have, I would like to learn more about what botany is really about. I know a little about botany, but I don't know that much to tell you what exactly it is. Learning more about botany would enrich my knowledge into know what botanists do?, what they look for when they go outside looking for plants?, How do you keep the plants look so moist and not break down for so long? What do botanist do when the found plant? and much more.
What I would be do first with Dr. Hian is collect Common Prairie Plants. After I collect a few of the plants I would bring them in and put them in a oven presser that would dry out the moist and still keep looking well. After that I would pull them out and mount them on acid free paper covering them with a acid free paper on the top and the bottom. When I'm done doing that I would then try to identify them all the plants that I have picked.

Today when Dr. Cashatt came and told us about Entomology I learned alot. Some of the information that he told us were like that the male butterfly rubbs his wings together to call to the female and other butterflies. BUGS is a comman name for insects.
The main parts for a bug is 2 pairs of wings, a head, a thorax that is attached to the abdomen, all have 2 antennas, a mouth part and jointed legs. A Brown Recluse Spider is the one insect with 6 eyes. The Dog Day Cicada is always around trees and harmless to humans. When they die they fall off the trees and lie on the floor. The Pieriodical Cicada lives in the ground for 17-years stuck to a trees root. When the weather give to about 64 degrees it crawls out from the ground. One of the largest and heaviest beetle is called the America hercules Beetle. The largest beetle in the world is called the Goliath Beetle. The Velvetant female ant's have no wings, but the males do. You will found them near the golf courses, the sand, and the rivers. Another information that I learned is that there 100,000 insects species in North America that are not harmful. There are 17,000-18,000 species occur in Illinois.
After Dr. Cashatt was done telling us information at Entomology, he was happy to answer any questions that we had.

Today I started out by doing Typing Tutor for about 15-20 minutes. After that we went wiith Pietra Mueller; she is a Palynologist; the study of pollen. We went to her office Botany/ Palynology. Pietra talked about what she does with the pollen and what the 3 main parts that are most important: inner, middle, and outer. She also talked about the lake that she found really good dirt there that is llike 8,000 years old. She also, goes to the Great Lake and she give the dirt from a long pole in the winter. When she gets the dirt she puts it in a white container and is slices the dirt right in the middle so she can see the pollen in the middle and and the growth of the ages it is. After she takes a picture of the dirt she then brakes then into parts that are 8 inches long. After she should us pictures of the dirt and how they measure the parts, she showed us what the pollen looks like under a microscope and what you have to look for when look under a microscope. After we looked at like 5 microscope of different pollen, we went into the where they do the chemical and where the mix and separate the dirt from the rocks. After that we came back to our computers and I worked on some of my assignments and then I teached the class how to work with PlantStudio. When I was done with that I finished the rest of the assignments.
